526 Concerns:
As you may be aware, we are now members of the City of Charleston's Neighborhood Council, and we meet with the Mayor on a quarterly basis. At our last meeting we asked the Mayor if we could receive updates on the progress of the 526 expansion. We received the following from Steve Thigpen, Director of Transportation Development, Charleston County Government:
Environmental
Work associated with the finalization of the Environmental Impact Statement is underway and is expected to be complete in early 2016. The associated federal approval processes by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the US Army
Corps of Engineers (USACE) will then be pursued.
Design
Preliminary Design work that is needed for permitting is underway and will be advanced to the 30% conceptual plan
level. It is anticipated that the conceptual design will be complete by Summer 2015.
Construction
Once the record of decision (by FHWA) and USACE permit are issue which is projected by late 2016, the project will proceed to construction. It is anticipated that the project will be delivered via Design Build with final design and construction services being contracted by a single entity.
Express your concerns by contacting Charleston County Council at: http://www.charlestoncounty.org/departments/Council/contacts.htm
